Job Description

Public Service Internship Programme

The Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP), administered by the Public Service Commission, is a government initiative aimed at equipping graduates with practical workplace experience in the public sector. The programme targets unemployed Kenyan graduates who have completed their degree or diploma courses from recognized institutions. It provides a structured environment where interns are placed in various ministries, state departments, and agencies to gain hands-on skills relevant to their fields of study.

The internship typically runs for a period of 12 months, during which participants receive a monthly stipend to support their basic needs. Interns are exposed to real government operations, including administration, finance, ICT, human resource management, and service delivery processes. This exposure helps bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, making graduates more competitive in the job market.

Applicants are usually required to be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 35 years, possess relevant academic qualifications, and be available for the full internship duration. The application process is conducted online through the PSC recruitment portal, where candidates submit their details and supporting documents before the stated deadline.

The Public Service Internship Programme is highly beneficial as it enhances employability, builds professional networks, and provides valuable experience in government operations. Although it does not guarantee permanent employment, many former interns leverage the experience gained to secure jobs in both the public and private sectors. Overall, the programme plays a key role in youth empowerment and supports Kenya’s efforts to develop a skilled and competent workforce.
