Job Description

Job Purpose

The Municipal Cleaners Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and monitoring municipal cleaning teams to ensure that streets, public spaces, markets, bus parks, and other designated areas are kept clean, safe, and hygienic in line with municipal sanitation standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision:

    • Assign daily cleaning routes and tasks to municipal cleaners.

    • Monitor work performance to ensure high sanitation standards.

    • Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to cleaning staff.

  • Operations Management:

    • Inspect cleaning equipment and tools, ensuring proper use and maintenance.

    • Arrange for repair or replacement of faulty tools and equipment.

    • Ensure compliance with waste disposal and recycling regulations.

  • Quality Control & Reporting:

    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure cleanliness standards are met.

    • Report incidents, hazards, or challenges to the Municipal Environmental Officer.

    • Maintain accurate records of staff attendance, work schedules, and cleaning progress.

  • Health & Safety:

    • Enforce safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.

    • Ensure staff wear protective gear (gloves, masks, reflective jackets).

    • Promote safe and hygienic working conditions.

  • Coordination & Communication:

    • Liaise with other municipal departments during events or emergencies.

    • Handle public complaints related to cleanliness and sanitation in assigned areas.

    • Foster teamwork and a positive working environment among cleaning crews.

Qualifications and Experience

  • KCSE Certificate or equivalent (Diploma in Environmental Management, Sanitation, or related field is an added advantage).

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in cleaning operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of waste management regulations and sanitation best practices.

  • Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment and tools.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
