Job Description

Principal Security Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring the safety and security of the Corporation’s members of staff, visitors and assets.
  2. Guiding in the implementation of the Security Unit’s strategy, security policies and security policy frameworks.
  3. Overseeing the implementation of security processes across the Corporation.
  4. Coordinating the implementation of a comprehensive safety and security education and awareness programs for the Corporation.
  5. Maintaining key contact with external agencies to maintain awareness on relevant current security issues.
  6. Maintaining key contact with law enforcement agencies in matters of investigations involving the Corporation.
  7. Overseeing the update of the daily occurrence book, incident reports and any breach of security incidences.
  8. Providing leadership to security personnel to handle emergencies within the Corporation.
  9. Providing leadership to security personnel on vehicle and visitor searches and guide to ensure registration is conducted in accordance with approved guidelines.
  10. Overseeing periodic security risk assessment in line with the approved security policies and procedures.
  11. Coordinating the development of operational and tactical security work plans and schedules, including shifts and workstation assignments, relating to the security office.
  12. Coordinating in the review of security policies and procedures to take into account security priorities.
  13. Overseeing the development and review of the safety framework.
  14. Coordinating the development of safety and security training and awareness programs in line with the Corporation’s policies and procedures.
  15. Assigning security personnel to handle emergencies within the Corporation.
  16. Ensuring that vehicle and visitor searches and registration is conducted in accordance with approved guidelines.
  17. Coordinating rescue and evacuation in the event of emergencies.

 

Requirements

For appointment to this grade, an Officer must have:

  1. Cumulative service period of nine (9) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Senior Security Officer or in a comparable position.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in criminology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  3. Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  4. Membership to a relevant Professional Body where applicable.
  5. Undergone a six (6) weeks Security Investigation Course at the CID Training School or an equivalent security training from a recognized Institution.
  6. Proficiency in Computer Application.
  7. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
