Job Description
1. Â Â Ext/A/KMF/1. Senior Engineer – KMFRI Grade 5 (1 Post)
a. Â Â Job Specification
Duties and Responsibilities will entail;
i) Â Â Preparing institutional infrastructure maintenance plans.
ii) Â Â Preparing technical designs for experimental systems based on research scientist performance requirements;
iii) Â Â Advising research scientists on technical feasibility of proposed infrastructure developments;
iv) Â Â Supervising ongoing infrastructure projects; and
v) Â Â Mentoring, supervising, guiding and training engineers within the department.
b. Â Â Person SpecificationsÂ
For appointment to this grade, a person must have: –
i)   At least six (6) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the position of Engineer or a comparable position in the public or private sector;
ii) Â Â Bachelor of Science Degree in one of the following fields: – Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Building and Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering
iii)   Post-graduate diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Maritime and Civil Engineering, or   equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
iv) Â Â Registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;
v) Â Â Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
vi) Â Â Proficiency literate in computer especially in the use of auto card, arch card, MS word Revit, Ms Project, Civil 3D, Prokon and other structural design & detailing software. skills; and
vii) Â Â Meets the requirements provisions of chapter six of constitution.
c. Â Â Key Competencies and Skills
i) Â Â Strong communication and reporting skills;
ii) Â Â Strong analytical and numerical skills;
iii) Â Â Strong organization and interpersonal skill;
iv) Â Â Interpersonal and negotiation skills; and
v) Â Â Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and multitask.
d. Â Â Remuneration and Benefits
i)   Basic Salary Scale: KShs. 116,410 – KShs. 151,334 P.M.;
ii) Â Â House Allowance: KShs. 45,000 P.M.
iii) Â Â Commuter Allowance: KShs. 13,000 P.M.
iv) Â Â Annual Leave Allowance: KShs.12,500 P.A.
v) Â Â Medical Cover and Other Allowances: As provided by KMFRI
