Homa Bay County, located in southwestern Kenya along Lake Victoria’s southern shores, spans about 3,155 km² and had 1.13 million inhabitants according to the 2019 census . The county consists of eight sub‑counties and 40 electoral wards, with Homa Bay town serving as its capital (homabay.go.ke).

The economy thrives on fishing, agriculture (maize, millet, sugarcane), livestock, and tourism. Notable attractions include Ruma National Park, the volcanic Lake Simbi Nyaima, Mount Homa, and cultural treasures on Rusinga and Mfangano islands. The Luo people—about 97% of the population—embody a rich cultural heritage . Under Governor Gladys Wanga (since August 2022), infrastructure and eco‑tourism efforts have intensified.
