Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), commonly known as Kenya Power, is a public utility company responsible for transmitting, distributing, and retailing electricity to customers throughout Kenya. Established in 1922 as the East African Power and Lighting Company, it was renamed Kenya Power and Lighting Company in 1983. The company is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, with the Government of Kenya holding a 50.1% stake and private investors owning 49.9%.
Kenya Power serves over 9.6 million customers across the country, providing electricity to domestic, commercial, industrial, and street lighting sectors . The company operates a vast network of over 160,000 kilometers of power lines and has installed more than 13,000 new transformers in the past decade
