Company Description
Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority
The Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) is Kenya’s independent regulator established under the Public Benefit Organizations Act 2013, which officially commenced on 14 May 2024. PBORA replaces the NGO Coordination Board, overseeing the registration, deregistration, and regulation of public benefit organizations (PBOs), including local and international entities. The Authority maintains a national PBO registry, monitors compliance with governance and financial reporting standards, reviews annual returns, and enforces accountability. PBORA also establishes dispute mechanisms, fosters stakeholder engagement, and supports sector growth by enabling tax exemptions, government funding access, and procurement preferences for registered PBOs.
