IT Disaster Recovery and Disaster Management Specialist NGO Job. IT Jobs In Kenya

The IT Disaster Recovery and Disaster Management Specialist provides technical leadership in the design, coordination, and execution of disaster recovery (DR) and IT continuity strategies across global operations—with a particular focus on enabling preparedness and rapid response in field environments. This role helps ensure that critical digital services remain secure, resilient, and recoverable in the face of cyber threats, natural disasters, or infrastructure failures.

Operating across both global and regional scopes, the specialist supports the development and testing of enterprise DR frameworks, while also delivering field-specific planning, readiness, and capacity building. This dual responsibility ensures operational continuity for both central systems and mission-critical field operations in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

We are looking for an IT Disaster Recovery and Disaster Management Specialist to lead global disaster recovery strategies and ensure continuity of operations in the most critical conditions. You will shape and execute DR planning across cloud, infrastructure, and field services—empowering secure, reliable, and restorable digital operations during emergencies. If you’re passionate about operational resilience and thrive in high-impact environments, we invite you to join our mission.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the global IT disaster recovery framework, policies, and recovery standards in alignment with enterprise risk and continuity strategies.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of DR plans for core infrastructure, cloud platforms, and business-critical applications.
  • Conduct and manage enterprise-wide DR drills and simulation exercises, including recovery time objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO) validation.
  • Design and implement DR strategies and response protocols tailored to field offices, ensuring readiness in low-bandwidth, disaster-prone, or high-risk contexts.
  • Act as technical advisor and support during IT-related emergencies, service disruptions, or field-based crisis incidents.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure robust backup, failover, and incident response mechanisms are in place.
  • Train and build capacity of regional and local IT staff on DR processes, emergency IT protocols, and post-disaster recovery workflows.
  • Maintain and improve DR documentation, including runbooks, readiness dashboards, and recovery plans for both global and regional platforms.
  • Engage with external partners and vendors to support third-party DR integration and infrastructure logistics.
  • Contribute to the maturity of the organization’s business continuity and incident response frameworks from a technical and operational standpoint.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Proven experience in disaster recovery, IT continuity planning, or technical emergency response within global and decentralized organizations.
  • Strong understanding of cloud services (e.g., Azure, AWS), data center resilience, hybrid infrastructure, and backup technologies.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity incident response and its integration into DR planning.
  • Practical experience supporting humanitarian or field-based operations is highly desirable.
  • Effective communicator with strong documentation skills and the ability to lead under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL, ISO 22301, or other continuity frameworks; certification (e.g., CBCI, DRII, or similar) is a plus.
  • Agile mindset and familiarity with adaptive planning practices in fast-changing environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service continuity, user support, and operational reliability in both headquarters and field contexts.
