Job Description
Climate Workx:11,000 Youth Needed For Kazi Mtaani Application 2025 Program
In a powerful and progressive move, the Government of Kenya has officially announced the revival of the beloved Kazi Mtaani initiative—this time under a new banner: Climate Workx. Slated to launch on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, this revitalized program is designed to tackle two pressing national challenges simultaneously: youth unemployment and climate change.
With an ambitious target to provide temporary employment to over 110,000 Kenyan youth, Climate Workx is not just a work program—it’s a call to action for a greener, more resilient, and more inclusive future.
What is Climate Workx? Kazi Mtaani 2025 Program
Climate Workx is a reimagined version of the Kazi Mtaani initiative, aimed at offering structured work opportunities for young people aged 18 to 35. Unlike the earlier versions, Climate Workx places environmental sustainability at its core.
The program is being implemented through a multi-agency collaboration that includes:
- Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA)
- Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA)
- National Government Administration Officers (NGAO)
- Kenya Forest Service (KFS)
Together, these bodies will provide oversight, technical support, and day-to-day coordination to ensure successful rollout and implementation across all 47 counties.
Why Climate Workx?-
Kazi Mtaani 2025 Program
The program is aligned with Kenya’s larger national goals, especially the Climate Change Act and Vision 2030, both of which emphasize youth involvement in sustainable development. With growing concerns about rising youth unemployment, environmental degradation, and the need for climate adaptation, Climate Workx serves as a timely and holistic response.
Core Objectives:
- Create short-term employment for Kenyan youth
- Promote national values and patriotism through civic education
- Support climate action activities such as tree planting and seedling production
- Maintain and improve local infrastructure through road repair and cleanups
- Equip youth with essential life and technical skills
How the Program Works
Job Categories:
There are two main roles:
- General Workers
- Supervisors
1. General Workers (Youth Participants)
General workers will take part in various manual and semi-skilled tasks, including:
- Routine road maintenance: clearing vegetation, filling potholes, unblocking drainage systems.
- Environmental conservation: tree planting, nursery care, composting, and watering.
- Public sanitation: cleaning markets, roadside areas, and informal settlements.
- Civic learning sessions: focused on patriotism, hygiene, national values, and personal development.
Each participant will be assigned duties within their local communities, reducing transportation needs and enhancing community ownership.
Work Duration:
Youth will work in two alternating cohorts, each serving for 10 weekdays (Monday–Friday) followed by a rest and training period.
Pay:
General workers will receive KES 500 per day, paid via M-Pesa after every work cycle.
2. Supervisors
Supervisors will play a critical leadership role, ensuring that activities are well-coordinated, productive, and safe.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading daily field operations and roll calls
- Assigning and overseeing daily tasks
- Ensuring the correct use of tools and materials
- Reporting attendance, performance, and incidents
- Working closely with engineers and administrators
Eligibility Criteria:
- Aged 18–35 years
- Reside in the local area
- Preference given to former NYS recruits
- Strong leadership and basic reporting skills are a plus
Pay:
Supervisors will receive KES 550 per day, also paid via M-Pesa.
Key Features & Special Guidelines
1. Gender Parity (50:50 Rule)
Climate Workx aims to empower both male and female youth equally. Recruiters are required to ensure a 50:50 gender balance during selection.
2. Disability Inclusion (30%)
At least 30% of all slots are reserved for persons living with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations will be made to ensure full participation.
3. One Household, One Opportunity
To promote widespread benefits, only one participant per household is eligible. This prevents duplication and broadens impact.
4. Village-Based Recruitment
Recruitment will take place at the village level, and participants will work within their localities. This simplifies logistics, encourages local participation, and boosts accountability.
5. Community Mobilization
Awareness campaigns will be conducted through:
- Village barazas
- Chief’s notices
- Religious gatherings
- Local radio
- Door-to-door outreach
No eligible youth should miss out due to lack of information.
More Than Just a Job: Civic Growth & Life Skills
One of the most unique features of Climate Workx is its focus on personal development. When not on active duty, youth will engage in interactive training sessions led by local administrators, NGOs, and community leaders.
Topics will include:
- National unity and cohesion
- Financial literacy and saving habits
- Climate awareness and eco-friendly living
- Conflict resolution and leadership
- Hygiene and public health
This approach helps youth gain not just a paycheck, but tools for long-term empowerment and community impact.
Payment Guidelines for Kazi Mtaani 2025 Program
All wages will be paid through M-Pesa. Participants are advised:
- Avoid using Fuliza or overdraft services
- Ensure phone numbers are registered under their name
- Keep accounts active and above zero balance
Supervisors will be tasked with helping resolve any payment issues promptly.
Discipline, Safety, and Conduct
High standards of discipline, safety, and respect are expected. Misconduct, absenteeism, or misuse of resources will result in disqualification.
Participants are expected to:
- Report to work on time
- Use safety gear where required
- Respect team leaders and fellow workers
- Protect and maintain tools and public property
