Job Description

Librarian I- Kenya-AIST Grade 8

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –

  1. Organizing and retrieving library books, publications, circulations and other related information;
  2. Issuing publications/reading and research resources to Library users;
  3. Sending reminder notices for overdue publications;
  4. Updating the catalogue and shelving new and returned books, publications and other materials; and
  5. Assisting users on cataloguing and retrieving information from the library.

For appointment to this grade an officer must have: –

  1. At least six (6) years relevant work experience;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Library and Information Studies, Information Sciences, Knowledge Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  3. Proficiency in library-specific computer applications such as KOHA (Integrated Library System), DSpace (Institutional Repository), OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), and other digital library databases and cataloging tools; and
  4. Knowledge of data protection laws is an added advantage.
  5. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

iii. Successful candidates will be required to provide clearance from (a) Kenya Revenue Authority, (b) Higher Education Loans Board, (c) Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and (d) a Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigation Department.
