Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reporting to: Head of Data
Working Hours: 8:00 – 17:30 EAT (Monday–Friday)

We are now looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a critical role in shaping and scaling our core data platform. This is a high-impact, long-term role for an experienced engineer who thrives at the intersection of data engineering, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure.

Our data platform sits at the heart of everything we do — from credit decisioning and underwriting to analytics, machine learning, and responsible growth. In this role, you will:
● Architect and maintain high-performance, production-grade data infrastructure
● Build Python-driven APIs and containerised data services
● Enable real-time analytics and ML-driven underwriting
● Ensure data governance, quality, security, and ethical use across the organisation
Your work will directly influence how millions of entrepreneurs access capital and build resilient businesses.
What you’ll be doing
Advanced Python & API Engineering
● Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs using Python (FastAPI / Flask)
● Develop and deploy containerised applications
● Integrate data and ML services across core fintech and microservices platforms
Data Architecture & SQL Engineering
● Optimise complex SQL queries for high-performance analytics
● Design robust data models supporting reporting and predictive use cases
● Build and maintain feature stores and custom ETL pipelines
● Enrich internal datasets with external data sources for ML workloads
Cloud, DevOps & Governance
● Manage GCP infrastructure using Terraform (IaC)
● Own CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and testing frameworks
● Uphold strong data governance, privacy, and ethical standards
Who we’re looking for
You’re a seasoned data engineer who enjoys building reliable systems that scale — and you care deeply about quality, impact, and collaboration.
You’ll bring:
● A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related field
● 5+ years’ experience in data engineering (with senior-level responsibility)
● Expert-level Python skills for APIs, automation, and backend services
● Advanced SQL and data modelling expertise (BigQuery / MySQL)
● Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Vertex AI)
● Hands-on CI/CD and Git-based workflows
● Experience in fintech or financial services (strong advantage)
● GCP Professional Data Engineer or ML Engineer certification (added advantage)
