Job Description
Senior Probation Officer
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
i. A minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience in probation service two (2) of which should be at the level of Probation Officer I CSG 10;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Social Work, Sociology, Criminology, Law, Counselling Psychology, Social Psychology, Project Planning and Management, Nursing, Animal Science, Commerce, Statistics, Information and Communication Technology, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Economics, Political Science and Public Administration, Penology, Public Policy, Animal Husbandry, Education, Religious Studies, Development Studies, Community Development, Guidance and Counseling, Conflict Management and Resolution, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Gender and Development Studies, International Relations, and Philosophy;
iii. Membership to a relevant professional body where applicable and in good standing;
iv. Certificate in Computer application skills; and
v. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Implementing policies, strategies, guidelines on Probation and Aftercare Programs;
ii. Undertaking assessment interviews for victims, accused persons and offenders for bail and presentence in medium and high-risk cases in subordinate courts;
iii. Conducting social enquiries on accused persons and offenders referred by the subordinate courts;
iv. Preparing bail assessment and presentence report on medium and high-risk cases.
v. Preparing victim impact statements as directed by subordinate courts;
vi. Preparing and submitting pre-lease report to power of mercy committee, borstal institution board of visitors and rehabilitation schools committee;
vii. Implementing restorative justice and victim services;
viii. Developing individual treatment plans in accordance with risk, needs and responsivity (RNR) for offenders under supervision;
ix. Developing individual supervision plans (ISP) for offenders under supervision;
x. Implementing rehabilitation interventions responsive to offender and offence type;
xi. Undertaking psychosocial counselling on offenders and victims of crime;
xii. Undertaking needs assessment and empowerment of offenders;
xiii. Implementing reintegration and resettlement programs;
xiv. Consolidating and maintaining of offender worksite profile and community service order stakeholders;
xv. Consolidating data and information on offenders, victims and community service orders quantification;
xvi. Compiling and reporting on offender empowerment programs;
xvii. Undertaking family conferencing for probationers;
xviii. Undertaking crime prevention Programs; and
xix. Preparing periodic progress reports.
