Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC is the leading electric power generating company in East Africa. Established in 1954 as Kenya Power Company, it was restructured in 1998 and renamed KenGen. The company is 70% government-owned and listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. It generates over 60% of Kenya’s electricity, with an installed capacity of 1,904 MW, sourced from hydro (825.69 MW), geothermal (799 MW), thermal (253.5 MW), and wind (25.5 MW).
