National Drought Management Authority

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a Kenyan government agency responsible for coordinating drought management and building resilience in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). Established under the National Drought Management Authority Act, 2016, NDMA monitors drought conditions, provides early warning information, and supports communities affected by drought. The Authority works with county governments, communities, development partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen preparedness, response, and recovery from drought emergencies. NDMA also implements programmes aimed at improving livelihoods, food security, water access, and community resilience. Its work is important in reducing the effects of drought and supporting sustainable development in vulnerable areas across Kenya.
