    The Social Health Authority (SHA)  is a government institution in Kenya established to manage and deliver universal health coverage services. It replaced previous national health insurance systems to improve efficiency, accessibility, and affordability of healthcare for all citizens. SHA is responsible for registering members, collecting contributions, and paying for approved medical services across accredited hospitals and clinics. The authority aims to ensure that every Kenyan has access to quality healthcare without facing financial hardship. Through digital systems and expanded coverage, SHA supports preventive care, outpatient and inpatient services, and specialized treatment, strengthening Kenya’s overall healthcare financing system and equity in service delivery.
