Job Description

Librarian Job Grade Cue 6

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: 

  • Developing information access aids such as indexes and annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, and on-line tutorials;
  • Sorting books, publications and other items according to established procedure and returning them in the shelves, files, or other designated storage areas;
  • Locating library materials for users and instructing them on how to use reference sources and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC);
  • Searching standard reference materials, including on-line sources and the Internet, in order to answer patrons’ reference questions;
  • Analyzing patrons’ requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information;
  • Responding to customer complaints, taking action as necessary;
  • Advising clients on Commission standards and guidelines for library resources;
  • Editing library resource evaluation reports;
  • Examining proposal for completeness and overall compliance with Guideline;
  • Coordinating the weeding and stock taking of library books; and
  • Coordinating the processing of books and periodicals through cataloguing and classification.

Person Specification   
For appointments to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library and information science;
  • Membership to a professional body and in good standing;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Fulfilling the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

The Successful candidates will be required to provide the following documents before the award of offer in compliance with Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010:

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
  • Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
