Job Description

Principal Psychological Counsellor

(i) Served in the grade of Senior Psychological Counsellor or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for a minimum of three (3) years OR at least seven (7) years’ cumulative relevant professional experience in the Public Service;

(ii) Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology (Counseling), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

OR
Bachelor’s Degree in any following fields: Clinical Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Social Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work and a Diploma in Counseling or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

(iii) Membership to a relevant professional body;

(iv) Registration Certificate issued by the Counsellors and Psychologists Board;

(v) Valid practicing license from the Counselors and Psychologists Board;

(vi) Certificate in Psychological Debriefing Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;

(vii) Certificate in Counselor Supervision Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution from;

(viii) Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

(ix) Certificate in computer application skills;

(x) Met the requirements of Chapter six (6) of Constitution; and

(xi) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

(i) undertaking client assessment;
(ii) developing and administering counseling contract to client(s);
(iii) establishing collaborative working relationships with the client for effective psychological counseling services;
(iv) providing individual, group, families and trauma counseling services;
(v) assessing and evaluating individuals’ issues through the use of appropriate psychological counseling skills, methods and techniques;
(vi) developing psychological explanation of the client issues;
(vii) referring clients to specialists or other institutions for non-counselling services;
(viii) developing appropriate psychological counselling and treatment plans;
(ix) conducting psychological counseling research;
(x) liaising with other professionals on psychological counseling issues;
(xi) providing psychological counseling consultancy services;
(xii) participating in designing and development of psychological counseling tools;
(xiii) coordinating psychological counseling programmes and activities;
(xiv) documenting, recording and keeping appropriate psychological counseling information and records; and
(xv) preparing psychological counseling reports.
