Kenya Institute of Special Education
The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is a government institution under Kenya’s Ministry of Education, established in 1986 to promote inclusive education and support persons with special needs and disabilities. Based in Kasarani, Nairobi, KISE trains teachers and other professionals in special needs education through various programmes. The institute also provides functional assessments, rehabilitation, early intervention, research, and assistive technology services. Its areas of specialization include visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical and multiple disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, and deafblind education. KISE plays an important role in strengthening inclusive education and improving learning opportunities for persons with disabilities across Kenya.
