Academic qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized institution.
- Master of Science Degree in any of the following disciplines is an added advantage: –
Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Occupational Safety and Health from a recognized institution.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies
- Registration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board
- Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognised Institution
- Certificate in Management Course from a recognized institution
- Demonstrate high degree of professional and technical competence and administrative capabilities as reflected in work performance and results.
Previous relevant work experience required.
Have served in the grade of Chief Veterinary Officer (job group N) for a minimum period of three (3) years;

Job Description
Job Purpose
This position is responsible for providing animal health services, veterinary public health services, animal disease control and welfare services.
Key Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks
I. Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
a) Supervise Sub-County technical Officers as they implement planned pest control activities;
b) Coordinate and promote the development and transfer of appropriate technologies for disease control;
II. Operational Responsibilities / Tasks
a) Participate in carrying out economic impact assessment on animal diseases
b) Undertake forensic investigations and compile appropriate reports
c) Offer veterinary services at ports of entry
d) Undertake disease control activities such as disease search, mapping, vaccination and enforcement of livestock movement regulations
e) Train stakeholders on vector control programme, animal health, breeding, welfare and good veterinary practices
f) Treat sick animals
g) Analyse data and prepare reports on animal health, products and markets
h) Undertake postmortem examination and other diagnostic tests
i) Interpreting laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations
j) Inspect, grade and license plants processing animal products and transport carriers/containers
k) Exame and issue animal health certificates
l) Participate in field efficacy trials for drugs, vaccines and acaricides
m) Disseminate data/information on animal health, products and markets; and
n) Collaborate with stakeholders in providing veterinary services.

High: Exposure to zoonotic diseases and vectors in the line of duty and uses potentially dangerous drugs and chemical substances in official work. Major accidents possible, such as death, infections, cuts, bruises and strains. Would require the use of personal protection equipment all the time during supervisory work on field veterinary services; and risk allowance.
